As the winds of March stir the earth, nature reminds us that change is constant, cleansing, and full of possibility. Spring is a time of renewal—shedding the heaviness of winter and embracing fresh energy, just like the wind that carries away what no longer serves us.
Here's a yoga pose for March to try: Revolved Triangle (Parivrtta Trikonasana)
This twisty, grounding pose mirrors the cleansing energy of spring winds. It helps detoxify the body, improve digestion, and create space for fresh energy. Try holding this pose for five deep breaths on each side, allowing the movement to clear stagnant energy and open you up to new possibilities.
How to Get Into Revolved Triangle (Parivrtta Trikonasana)
Step into a wide stance – Turn your right foot forward and your left foot slightly inward.
Square your hips – Draw your right hip back, left hip forward, and engage your core.
Extend and twist – Hinge at the hips, place your left hand on a block outside or inside
your right foot, and reach your right arm up.
Deepen the twist – Press into both feet, lengthen your spine on the inhale, and twist deeper on the exhale.
Hold and breathe – Stay for 5 breaths, then switch sides.
Healthy Habit: Spring Breathwork (Kapalabhati – Breath of Fire)
Kapalabhati, or "Breath of Fire," is an energizing breath technique that stimulates circulation and clears mental fog—perfect for shaking off winter sluggishness. To practice:
Sit tall and take a deep inhale.
Exhale through your nose while contracting your lower belly for a more forcefully exhale.
Continue for 30 seconds, then take a deep inhale and exhale fully.
Repeat 2-3 rounds.
Benefits of Breath of Fire (Kapalabhati)
Boosts Energy: Quickly invigorates the body and mind.
Detoxifies the System: Helps clear the lungs and improve oxygen circulation.
Enhances Digestion: Stimulates the digestive organs and metabolism.
Clears Mental Fog: Increases focus and mental clarity.
Warms the Body: Generates internal heat, perfect for transitioning out of winter sluggishness.
Avoid Revolved Triangle if you have spinal injuries, low back pain, high or low blood pressure, or if you're pregnant. Breath of Fire should be avoided by those who are pregnant, have high blood pressure, heart conditions, dizziness, or respiratory issues like asthma. Always listen to your body and modify as needed!
By incorporating these practices, you’ll align your energy with the season, embracing the winds of transformation and renewal.
